I'm teaching at a public high school in the States and on just my income with three people in the household we qualify for state health care... that is just one step up from being on Medicaid.
After having lived in Mexico City on one income and living here in the States, I would say that our quality of living in Mexico was slightly better. We won't be taking any grand vacations on my salary! But we wouldn't have taken any on the salary in Mexico either. Looks like we are both going to need to be employed eventually... oh wait, full time daycare in the States for a 14 month old is $1000 dollars a month. |

If you were in Mexico and if you had a job with IMSS or ISSTE coverage daycare would be FREE. (until 4 years old).
If you were in Mexico and you didn't have IMSS or ISSTE there is still SEDESOL which subsidizes daycare a certain percent depending on your income. |

Sad but true. Mexico is actually ahead in some areas vs. the US, mainly healthcare and related things like childcare. INFONOVIT is also an excellent program.
Remember folks, I call it as I see it. |

INFONAVIT is an excellent program. Last month I won, two mensualidades for being on track with my payment. Take that, Freddy Mac! |

INFONAVIT has been a "quiet" success of the Federal Govt. Allowing many working class and lower middle-class families their first chance to ever own a home.
Congrats on making your payments on time! |

It's a good housing program, overall, but there are some problems for those without real stable jobs. Lots and lots of houses are in default and sit empty. When someone loses a job, things can get complicated. Or the employer can be tardy submitting, something which seems to happen quite a bit.
Our house payment is being submitted by UAS via payroll deduction (la Universidad Autnoma de Sinaloa) so, while it's deducted on time, the UAS often fails to submit in a timely manner. That is out of our control. Consequently, we won't be receiving any "thank you for being prompt" awards. |
