I'm not looking for warnings about this company (I know people who've had both good and bad experiences). I'm willing to take the risks, so I want to know who has taken their Skype interview?

It says it's two parts by two different people. I do have Japanese ability and honestly listed my ability according to their criteria on the application form. Is a Japanese person going to give me a test?

Is it video? This is important so I know whether to wear something nice or not.

Feedback is appreciated! I really don't know how to prepare or if preparing is possible (i.e. just gauging your personality).

I'd say wear a suit regardless. It may make you feel more professional and in the right mood.

As for what Borderlink does in a Skype interview, I don't know, but interviews are interviews.

As for the reputation of Borderlink itself, well...

Wear prison-stripes - they'll know that you'll fit in there.

Well I work for this company now.. If Kevin is interviewing you, don't sweat it too much. Just let him know you can be easygoing enough to fit in here and have fun with the kids at the school...

Overall the company isn't the problem in the equation of working for them. It is the school board and how much they are willing to pay.... I went from being somewhat rich at my Eiakiwa job to being dirt poor as an ALT... Currently trying to get private students to make up some of the slack..

Good luck to you.

thanks for the info. actually i'm a pretty easygoing person but i think that trait has cost me several jobs as it's sometime mistaken for a lack of interest in the position for which i'm interviewing.

I can say this much. The pay for this job is marginal at best. Eikaiwa work will pay better, but you wont have as many vacations.

It's more likely that an eikaiwa position will have paid vacation. Work for Borderlink or one of the other "borderline" ALT dispatchers and the bulk of your vacation time will probably be unpaid and the remaining five days fixed by your employer.

they offered me a position which was set to begin this year but then the earthquake hit. however, i declined their offer before that. based on my qualifications i wanted the maximum salary they offered, they met me somewhere in the middle. also their reputation scared me away a bit.

there is no camera interview (at least not for me). if you list any kind of japanese ability be prepared for a quick test to show you're not just making it. otherwise it's pretty laid back, i was interviewed separately by both of the guys there.
