Hi, all! I'm new to ESL teaching but lately I've been interested in teaching in Thailand (and Japan, but that's another forum), particularly Bangkok. (I have a B.A. degree from a pretty good school, but no teaching certifications...I'm working on getting one while I'm abroad). I have an interview with a private language school called Patai Udom Suksa, but I haven't been able to find any reviews on it online. Does anyone know anything about it? I would be incredibly grateful!

Thanks!

Hi!
Have just seen your post. You may have already had your interview by now. I taught there fromm 2009-2010

Patai isn't a language school. It's a private Thai school (kindergarten thru secondary)with about 4,000 students. There is an bilingua International Program, an intensive programme (5 English lessons a week) and one where the students get 2/3 lessons a week.

The kids are great, the management has its moments!

Pay isn't great - around 30K a month. You get paid for the holidays if you do Summer Camp & an Intensive Englsih course (2 weeks). Basic inurance and work permit etc are paid. There are around 30 foreign staff, and some reasonable accommodation, bars, 7/11's etc nearby, but it's up in the north of Bangkok about 10 mins from the old airport, so quite a way from Downtown.

If you want any further info, feel free to ask - let me have your email address and I'll happily provide it.

Dear teflteach,

I came across your post when googling 'teaching in Patai'. I am thinking of going there to teach this semester. If you could email me and let me know how you got on there I would greatly appreciate it,

Thanks Smile

Hi Teflteach,

Please can you email me with details of your time at Patai Udong school?

I'm interested in learning about the curriculum, accommodation standards and cost, management and admin issues, how many children per class, holidays and anything else you think I should know.

My fiancee and I have been offered primary teaching positions due to start at the beginning of January.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I worked here from 2008 -2009 and knew teflteach (RIP) very well. I can pretty echo what she has mentioned.

A problem I found was a lot of the teachers were brand new with no teaching experience and young and fresh out of uni. They treated it as being on holiday and would slack on the work big time or not come in because they were too hungover. Which therefore meant the other would have to pick up the slack.

However generally I was happy there and there was a very social atmosphere amongst my work colleagues, I would recommend it as a good first school to anyone.

Hello,

While researching this school I came across these posts and I am wondering if anyone has any updated information on the school. I know that is is a private school that adheres to the Thai Ministry of Education so it is not a language academy. How are the conditions there? How is the administration? Did you teach there or do you know any that has taught there?

Also it is located about 45 minutes from the center of Bangkok and pretty close to Dom Muang Airport. What is that area of Bangkok like? Is is a decent place to live?

Any information and insight is much appreciated! Thank you in advance!
