Hello all,

Has anyone done business with Asia Recruitment Agency? They require a 20,000 baht deposit if someone accepts a job offer and claim that they will refund it on arrival. Also, they say that they will pay for transportation but deduct it from the deposit or from payroll. That doesn't make sense to me, so I asked them for clarification.

They say that last year, 17 people failed to appear for jobs that they accepted while overseas, and schools fined them for each no-show.

Does anyone know if this is legit? It sounds like a strange practice to me.

Thank you

Give a 20,000 Baht deposit overseas to an organization you've never met?

Absolutely NOT!

Beware.

Have you googled this organization to find any info on them?

After I posted here, yeah. One of the first-page results is this thread.

Apparently, they're based in Singapore. I don't see much info on them.

I suppose that if I go to Bangkok, I could investigate more easily, if they have anyone there.

This one is SIMPLE:

(forgive my shouting but...)

YOU SHOULD NEVER, NEVER, NEVER PAY A RECRUITER ANY AMOUNT FOR ANYTHING and there is NO EXCEPTION to that. NONE.

In case anyone is interested, someone who runs another ESL website replied to me about Asia Recruitment Agency. He thinks that it is not a scam, just an agency with a bad business model.

He understands their concerns, stating that several teachers find jobs through agencies. Thai schools then sign the teachers directly without paying the agency a fee. However, he recommends that I look elsewhere.
