I have joined the discussion late here but felt I have one or two points to make from having experienced these first hand.
MOD EDIT I began applying for jobs in China and I am able to teach in China so this move saved my sanity if nothing else.
Financially I can live easily on one wage in China although the long breaks in the summer and winter can put a strain on any savings.
Hope this helps answer part of your question about taking a spouse overseas. |

It was because she orginially had your name as a quote than changed it to mine. |
