I worked at Delter International Business Institute / college in Suzhou for about a month. This place also calls itself Delter Telfort. The location I worked at was on the campus of the Nanjing Institute of Railways Technology in Suzhou.

I researched on the Internet about this school and found nothing really positive and not much current. So let me start by saying that whatever negative things were written about Delter in the past, still stand true. This has got to be the WORST educational center in all of China.

To start 4 out of 5 of the foreign teachers quit within 9 weeks. Myself, A Canadian, an Australian, and a women from Britain all quit. Most gave no notice at all, just said goodbye as it is that bad. All teachers are cheated out of salary. Delter cheated me of over 1400 rmb in the first month and refused to pay me correctly. The Australian guy and other Canadian also got cheated. The British lady was too upset and just slipped away into the night never said goodbye to anyone. They refuse to provide any type of tax receipt showing your wages and taxes taken out, so you never know how much they take out and pocket.

When we first started we were told that the school offered corporate training classes and they were considered extra duty and not mandatory so some teachers elected to do them and others not. When pay day came around no one got any extra pay and were told that they changed their mind and these are considered regular hours now.

Everyone works at Delter illegally. The school cannot obtain working visas for the teachers but of course tells everyone they can. So when you get here on a tourist visa, you are stuck and they tell you that YOU must pay for a trip to HongKong to get a Z visa and tell them that you work for the Nanjing campus of the Railway School.

When I got here I was promised a room at the school but everything was broken. The tv, dvd player, the water heater in the bathroom, nothing worked and they never fixed any of it so I could never live in the room as promised.

To Delter the contract means nothing. Most teachers never get a copy even though they ask repeatedly. The response is always that its in Nanjing and when it arrives we will get it. The school sent a representative from Shanghai and he told us lets put it in perspective, Delter is only about making money, education is not a priority. Just entertain the students, and never fail any, even if they dont pass the exam or attend class.

Maybe its not a surprise but the headmaster and her assistant are wholly incompetent and think nothing of lying openly to your face and scheduling you with as many classes as they can. Students complain about the high turnover of teachers no one lasts a long time here.

If you are even remotely considering working at Delter you will regret it. At present the Suzhou campus at Delter has only 2 teachers instead of the 5 needed and those that come for an interview never accept the job. Take heed, this is not a sour grapes post at all, but it is and informative posting to tell you that DELTER is a scam and will only cheat its teachers and lie to them and when you leave no one stays they will find another sap to use and burn out.

I'll post more later...

Let's hope enough people aren't gullible enough to take this job.

Thanks.

Out of interest, if the balance of feedback on the internet was not favourable and with so many places with good feedback, despite the fact that the negative reviews were relatively old, what motivated you to sign?

My school is nothing short of excellent, but I know they have to work really hard at getting good teachers to prevent becoming understaffed. Where did your school advertise?

Some people don't have much to do. I heard playing the guitar is a good hobby. Also, one could learn a new language! =D
I'm just sayin' ...

I work at a Delter location as well. No one here has a legal visa, all work on tourist visas and the school does promise to get working visas but never has for anyone. Not one teacher I ever met who worked at Delter had a real legal to work visa.

It seems Delter is a very transient place where teachers come for a month or two and then leave for something better. If you are really desperate then you will find it a place to crash in the same way that a flea-bag motel is better than sleeping on a park bench on a cold night.

In the late 1990s, with 2 locations, the school was outstanding: top-notch teachers -- many with master's degrees and even a few PhD's thrown in --from all over, great students, good faciliites, fair management. Then as time wore on, everything went into a steep nose dive. Teachers were hired if they could see lightning and hear thunder; in Shanghai, we had one 19 year-old kid "teacher" from Canada who slept with his mother!! Facilities went into disrepair. Pay was late. Management became predatory and all bottom-of-the-barrel Chinese whose only discernable skills were coming up with some of weirdest lies imaginable and pocketing an atrocious amount of cash. The woman in SH, a horror named Q___, I know for a fact pocketed $180,000 one year alone when I was DOS. I was in close with the accountant who'd been a former MBA student of mine when we had a partnership with Napier U in Edinburgh.

Today it IS at the bottom-most rung. My only amazement is that they can still sttract any students at all. And, yeah, if you need to get started here....no I won't even say that!

recently I met a guy who works for Delter - Telfort in Suzhou. he shared some horror stories about the place.

I find it hard to believe people still go to work in these places.
