				| Hey there....
Quick question - which do you think is the best city and country to work in as an ESL-type teacher?

Consider all things - pay, environment, modernisation, location, etc...

Just curious for where I should set my sights... (MAppLing, going for MAppLingTESOL, etc)

No city/country is going to score high marks in ALL those categories, but there are trends in the EFL circuit you may already be aware of. Most people find Korea the easiest country to be hired in with reasonable salary/benefits. If you choose that country, I highly recommend you stick to a major city such as Seoul or Pusan. The highest pay will be in the Middle East usually in Saudi Arabia, but many people find it difficult to live there. For my money, any location in Japan is awesome but it's becoming very difficult to find reasonable work. Hope this helps a little.

				| This question gets asked often. Have a search, and you'll see some previous answers.
I say Latin America. Good food, great people, lots of dancing. And the salaries are pretty low. Not too modern. Great for the outdoors, though.

Which shows a lot about who I am, but little about where you should go.

 Best,
 Justin

				| I've never found an ideal country for TEFL. Each one is good for its own things. China must be good for learning Chinese, for example. | |

				| I love where I am, but lots of people hate it. I also liked China. Peru, not so much, actually, not at all. | |

What do you love about Korea? I've been thinking of applying to some of the university jobs there, but am not so sure whether I'd like the country.

				| I hate threads posing questions like this! Doesn't it only pander to PERSONAL preferences after all? If you like drinking, Asian girls, and chrerry blossoms falling on yer face in the Fall, then it's Japan or Korea. If you hate drinking, but have an "alternative" lifestyle, then saudi arabia would be a virtual Mecca for you.
Really, think about it! If we're both smokers...jes' because I like menthols, is it worthy of me tellin' ya that if you can't stand them???

I'm not saying that it's being lazy, but I agree with Justin and think that the OP should do some on-line research. It's not like s/he will commit a mistake that some of us who have in the past can help the poster avoid.

It's really all jes' a matter of personal preferences!

				| The OP posted this cos he's interested in settling down somewhere with a nice cozy teaching job, without much stress or hassle, and would like some ideas from those with more world experience to suggest where.
I will have buckets of experience and qualifications, but it's impossible to go to every single place on this planet to discover what's best.

So, asking in this forum actually constitutes 'some online research'! I could spend hours going through google searches, and forums, and websites, or... I could just ask those with the knowledge... simple
