I use lesson plans and teach 3 grades.I repeat the lessons for two of the grades so the prep is not that great.I do get sick of the units after the 8th time, though.Some classes are brighter than others. I have had to dumb down the lesson for two of the classses.

Laurent- who pissed in your cereal that morning. I'm teachin 9 year olds that are just begginers. I dont doubt that your a good teacher nut we're not talking about winging it in every class here. Like others on this forum you probably never read my opeing post - I dont have time to plan lessons for 30 classes! As I told clancy "get off your high horse."

Well I only do (about) 20 lessons per week but they're all planned. Basically I teach all the freshmen at my college, so it doesn't take a lot of work ... one lesson plan for 18 of my classes, and one lesson plan for the other two, Business English. I think if I had to teach 30 different lessons I would go nuts too. There's no way to prepare for so many classes. You teach 30 hours in China? Why?

I don't usually do a warm up or squirt water at them or anything like that. Maybe that isn't such a bad way to run middle school classes. Saying this will probably get me in trouble, but ... I try to run my class like college - level courses are run back home. I know it's a completely different environment or whatever, but I still teach college students, and my students have come to respect me for it and enjoy class. They know I'm not there to entertain them and play games with them or listen to myself talk for 45 minutes, and I just find it better for me and them to do things this way. I'm not saying other methods are wrong ... different strokes for different folks, right? Whatever works, works.

China also recruits English teachers (sic) from Nigeria, Cameroon, Phillippines, India, Packistan, Russia, Holland, Bulgaria, Poland, Rumania, etc.

Squirting a student with a water pistol is an assault. This is a criminal matter in China.

Laurent, there just is'nt anything for you to base criticism on, you've never seen any of my classes. I would welcome advice from anyone but in this case its hard to give me advice because no one can know my situation. No hard feelings, I just dont take sarcasm that well.Some of the sarcasm on this post poses as arogance, hence the high horse comment. Criticism I can take. My motor bike was borrowed to me by my boss but I think a honda 125 runs at about 3000RMBs or so in this neck of the woods(not too many cars in Yingde) Anything over 125CCs is illegal here. Cheers

and, yes, sure, i get angry when real teaching jobs go to people who clearly have no command of the english language. it makes me feel true sadness for the students you are willfully ripping off. it's totally fraudulent. do you need a dictionary to decypher my posts? i bet you do.

Although this is my first full year of teaching English in China, my lesson plans are pretty sparse. I usually just take my month calendar and put in the general idea of what I want to do that day, whether it be a workbook exercise or a game or an out-of-book activity. As for ORAL English - - I've posted before as to how my kids are so reticent to speak, that it is sometimes a struggle. However, I get as many to speak (just a little, at least) as I can by having them do dialogues, read their answers to an assignment we're going over, or some such other thing. Each of my classes are certainly at different levels (and we usually get finished with something much quicker in a smaller class than a large one), so I can't write down something like: "all Senior One classes will complete blah, blah, blah." 'Cause I know it's not gonna happen!

One thing I do though, is keep a diary of sorts - - what we completed that day, what the assignment is for the next class, and any other relevant notes that might help me in my NEXT class so I'm not being too redundant. This "diary" will go a long way in helping me next year and, I hope, it will be a little easier. For all of you that have no previous teaching experience, it is sure easier to "wing it" when you've been teaching for a long time and when you have some back-up things in your desk drawer (word puzzles, 10 minute games/activities, pictures to talk about, a few CDs with some song lyrics printed up, tongue twisters, and so on). You can always write down on your lesson plan: "IF TIME, listen to/discuss a song" (or whatever). I always planned TOO MUCH to do whenever I had a substitute coming in for me back home and it works well for me here as well.
