Optoma - Pico Pocket Projector
Looks good, $179.99 (USD) - would be about $2200 (MXN). I wonder if it's available here. According to Optoma's website, it's available at Bestbuy, Costco, Office Depot and Walmart, all of which are in Mexico, although this refers to the USA. Guess I'll get out there and check. |

I have found BestBuy Mexico to be at least 25% more expensive than in the US. Wal-Mart de Mexico has a much more limited selection as well. |

Just got back from an excursion to Office Depot...they didn't have any of the smaller projectors, only the bulkier ones. 8000 pesos for the cheapest. |

Definitely pass on that then...did you get a chance to see it in action? I've looked everywhere but Best Buy and haven't even seen it. |

The thing is, in business classes it is nice to have a digital projector that means you can project what's on your computer screen, such as videos, presentations or other documents, for the whole class to share, but it's often difficult to get access to one, even if the company has one.
Buying a normal one is expensive, and impractical to lug around your classes with you. This model is a small version, about the size of 2 jumbo matchboxes back to back, which easily slips into your book bag.
For those of us trying to drag English-teaching into the 21st Century, it's very tempting...

It's a digital projector, made compact enough to be both relatively cheap and portable enough to bring to classes.

It wouldn't work in a large classroom but I'm hoping it will be ideal for a one-to-one business English class, or in my smaller classroom with only a few students. |

Why would you need it for a one-on-one business class? The student can just look at your computer screen directly, which is what I do with my one-on-one classes. |

Do I have a PDA - out on my netbook? I have something with 3 rows of 5 holes; I guess that might be it.
It looks good enough for a company meeting room.
The price mentioned converts more or less to the BestBuy price! |

BB Mexico price, yes. Are electronics in the UK usually much more expensive than the US? There's a big difference from the US price we've seen. |

You know, I can't think of a solid reason other than I'm a boy and I want the cool toy.
It can produce a 60 inch image...better than the 16 on my laptop and yes, probably more useful with several students than with just one. It also seems to work from an iPod and some higher-end phones, though I wouldn't be teaching with those tools. |

Even if I wanted to, I have no bare walls in my apartment on which I could project an image. I like toys too, but I think I'll pass on this one and concentrate on adding to my photography toy collection. |
