Several teachers are getting together on Saturday December 4th to play ball hockey in Del Valle, with some Mexican kids to show them a new game (and to let some of us old farts get in some exercise). Open invite to anyone who would like to come. No particular skill level required and since we have all the equipment, all you need to bring are running shoes.

We'll play at 11 AM at Parque Zumarraga in Del Valle, At Viaducto Miguel Aleman and Coyoacan streets roughly. Here's the exact location on Google maps

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=parque+zumarraga,+mexico+city&sll=19.399512,-99.166567&sspn=0.002454,0.004823&ie=UTF8&hq=parque+zumarraga,&hnear=Mexico+City,+Distrito+Federal,+Mexico&ll=19.399361,-99.167372&spn=0.002454,0.004823&z=18

Or you can PM me for more info.

What is ball hockey? Do you mean field hockey, or as we Brits call it HOCKEY Very Happy, (can't understand why the Canucks want to play hockey on a surface that you can't stand up on! Wink )

Could be interesting...

Brits and hockey...now what's wrong with that picture? I think the last time Canada and the UK met on the ice was in the 50's and the 44-0 drubbing explains why you can't tell the difference 60 years later, Phil. Wink

There's actually an ice hockey league in Mexico, for under-17's I think. As for field hockey, in Canada we call that golf. Or lawn darts.

Ball hockey is what you play on basketball courts (as we will for the game on Dec. 4th) or in gymnasiums. A small plastic ball is used instead of a puck.

It will be fun! I've found that Mexican kids are surprisingly good at picking up the sport the first time they play.

I'm in the same boat, no worries.

From that wiki link, one of the photos has this caption...

I guess there still is a bit of hockey left in the UK!

Ah very cool. I used to love playing that (we called it floor hockey). I'll see if I can make it.

Had fun...but I am sore. The must fun part was getting to whack rich Mexican brats with sticks.

Sorry I couldn't make it - there are many people I'd enjoy hitting with sticks!

I didn't realize that stick hockey meant that you got to hit people with sticks. along with the balls. Otherwise I might have tried to make it Wink !

No, we only hit people in the legs. Not in the sensitive areas.
