But, he did not cause the fire intentionally. It is not as if he poured petrol all over the place and tossed in a match...

Which is confusing to me as saudi is usually held up as the model of fairness and efficiency...
How long has this been going on???

Dear NCTBA,
"How long has this been going on??? "
Ever since you left. It seems that you took all the efficiency and fairness with you.
So please return. The Kingdom needs to get all that back again .
Regards,

Which KSA are we referring to? I saw an awards ceremony where only the Arab office jocks got awards and the entire academic staff received nothing.
Wait till you hear about what is going on in Jeddah. But that is another story.

You're speaking out the side of your mouth... while collecting a pay check from the 'miserable country you're bashing'???? Nice! |
Just because one has worked in a country for a variety of employers (some excellent, some a lot less so) doesn't by any means oblige one to always speak in glowing terms about every aspect of that country. I would be far more concerned about the sincerity of those who always speak in glowing terms. |

Dear scot47,
' "Taking the King's Shilling" does imply some sort of contractual obligation ! '
Does the "contractual obligation" mean that you have to lie (or remain silent) about what's really going on?
I think such a contractual obligation would probably doom these forums.

Could everyone wait 48 hours? I would like to have my last pay check before dishing the dirt on a new entity.
Jeddah is going to be one very fascinating thread.

Dear brasscat,
48 Hours - why, I think that would be a good title for a TV show
Hope I live that long - the phrase "baited breath" springs to mind.

Actually I am on sick leave. I will be returning to my contract in good standing after surgery.
Besides, after you complete a contract, why stay when a better offer presents itself. All my stuff is completed contracts.

In that, I believe you, brasscat. Perhaps I wuz fergitting that all but one of my contracts were TSP contracts, which had a built-in life of three-year terms. Therein wuz my secret to longevity in the k.o.p. despite my pissy Scottish (No offense, scot!) BAe overlord who tried putting the screws to me one time too many.
I wuz offered a position at PSU this last August and wuz tempted to accept as I've heard nothing really bad about them and wuz happy with the thought of DQ housing which would help keep away the crazies...but they stubbed their toe when they informed me that a LONO wuz out of the question after the ONE YEAR contract.
IMHO, if you've done yer job and complete yer contract and decide you want to go to another employer for whatever reason, there should be no reason why a LONO SHOULDN'T be graciously offered to the employee who wants to test waters elsewhere.
It brought back to mind about my thinking of the saudis as little children who neglect their toys. The "toy" may be of no interest to them as they've received newer "toys"...but once another saudi child starts to show interest in that old toy...well...THAT toy becomes the most important toy in the World!!! Sheesh... Lord keep me away from saudi man-children!!
NCTBA (P.s.- They proved that I'd made the right decision by not being professional enuf to respond to my well-worded rejection of the offer. I need no bad sports in my old life!) |

To be totally honest, very few ESL Pros work for charity or volunteer. The idea is to make a living while pursuing a profession. Like any business, we don't survive very long when we are in a money loss contract.
I did one volunteer assignment in the Republic of Georgia for $75/week. Regretted it to the max!
If you don't actively protect yourself, who will?
