Prof,
As far as I know, colleges/academies which are part of the Qatar Foundation
http://www.qf.org.qa/output/Page1.asp offer one of, if not the best packages here in Doha. So from what I hear housing etc is very good (any fellow dohalites care to confirm this?). RE shopping facilities and so forth, these are plentiful here in Doha- but if you have anymore specific Qs regarding this, please ask....[/url] |

QLA people get standard QF housing, which in the past has meant whatever is available, either on- or off-campus. Some have lucked out, and some have had to go through days of no water and/or no electricity.
QF is now making a slow and arduous transition to their new housing compound, which is far from completed. The new housing looks nice, but it is rife with the kinds of problems you might expect when your house is built by people with a third-grade education who are getting about 600 riyals per month...
In other words, all is normal in Gulfland. |

Massive departures last year from staff when the head resigned. So far nobody this year is complaining too much. This is part of Qatar Foundation - training future military topdogs, etc. |

QLA students learn lessons in leadership from RAF pilot
STUDENTS at the Qatar Leadership Academy (QLA) were thrilled to know about the new generation combat aircraft Eurofighter Typhoon, on Thursday. Ex-fighter pilot Craig Penrice took them through the paces of Typhoon. Craig, who was a key member of the team of test pilots who developed Typhoon, one of the worlds most advanced and capable new generation combat aircrafts, told the QLA students about his experience as a fighter pilot in the UKs Royal Air Force (RAF). He also briefed them about the requirements and design development activities for what has become known as Eurofighter Typhoon... |

A bit management and staff shift the summer I left Qatar. Most of the foreign teachers quit when the head quit. They were fed up teaching there - a lot of spoiled boys. The parents think this is West Point but it's not (at least not at the moment). Maybe the new manager has been able to instill a sense of order and respect. The teachers were being bullied by the students. One lady teacher I knew who worked there almost had a breakdown. She quit along with all the others. |

They seem to be picking up. The students are being turned into model little cadets. There is hope for them yet. |

I miss that happy go lucky Ukrainian teacher who worked there. She was a laugh, always good for a good time. |
