Now now you two...

You are both right and you are both wrong. But either way... this ain't the place to debate it. I'm sure that there are boards for that elsewhere.

No, I think the UAE government finally realised the difference between Yanks and Canadians - the latter are just like the former, but without the style, humour, and money - and chose to keep them out.

Just for the Canadians ... that was a joke, by the way!

Dear BrownSauce,

You're out of luck. Canadians also have no sense of humor.

(That's also a joke, by the way,)

Regards,
John

In regards to the CT scanner, when I had a kidney stone I waited all of 20 minutes for my scan.. Oh the humanity! The wait is based on the immediate need at the time, a rational reasoning rather than those with the most money go first. To accompany the rational reasoning, MRI and CT scans are available for a fee at private clinics in Canada so people have pay lines too...

I'm not even sure why Americans are armchair quarterbacking on this thread; I suppose history shows us that its just their nature show up where they aren't wanted.

OK, maybe it WASN'T a joke - at least for some Canadians.

Sorry to have trespassed on your thread. Oh, that's right. You weren't the OP; an American was.

Regards,
John

can't we all just get along? Rolling Eyes

most likely, this whole thing will pass. the uae is playing hardball with the only leverage that it has, tourism. a close friend did some research and said that he discovered that the dirham is actually printed in canada. now if that is true, well.... hold the press! anyhow, after a few months, they will probably reverse the decision and i am sure there are some western political leaders talking to them behind closed doors. i have seen immigration rules change iterally over night in the last few years.

as we used to say when i was young, they just fellin' their oats. Laughing

as for americans going where we are not welcome - well, when the world is yours, no invitation is needed. Wink NOW THAT WAS A JOKE!!!!!!!

...yah, we all know Canada is just another European welfare state...and if you want to get your CT Scan without a year-long wait (or whatever the protracted wait is), you have to go south of the border where you can get it immediately.

Obama has incrementally improved health coverage south of the border. Meanwhile, at least I had a $10K operation free of charge thanks to private insurance.

Oh--and the government that gives you everything...can take it all away too. Enjoy your income taxes, some of which no doubt go into your lovely national carrier, Air Canada!

Yes, south of the border (aka the US of A) allows you to buy healthcare - IF you can afford it. I was in the Emergency in Gilette WY in August 1997 when I smashed my ankle and USCs that were doing the rodeo had busted shoulders and they self-released themselves because they could NOT pay. Also, a fellow with a mild heart attack self-released because he could neither afford the drugs nor the treatment.

None of these USCs had ANY health insurance. US freedom allows that. Canada and much of the western world (aka your welfare state) TAKES CARE OF THEIR CITIZENS in a way that the USA does not. How many USCs are without basic medical insurance - 17 million or??.

By the way, who paid for the insurance policy that took care of your $10K proceedure? My operation in Gilette cost $13K and Canadian medical coverage paid for it then. I believe my private insurance paid for the ambulance. Furthermore, a LOT of USCs CANNOT buy health insurance in the USA except at usury rates that can (and sometimes does) bankrupt them. But that is part and parcel of the USA system of "Freedom". Not a better system than in your so called "welfare states" but certainly different....

For those ex-pats doing the ESL stick outside the USA, SOMEONE is paying for your health care too. I have not seen any ex-pat paying for their healthcare out of their own pocket with tax free moola. ISTBC, because I do not know about anyone outside my own circle of friends.

Canucks can go to Cuba and North Korea with absolutely NO hassle from the Canadian government. Uncle Sam seems to have difficulty with USCs going to Cuba, and maybe to North Korea. A USC friend (yes I have some) stated "Who would want to?" in reply to my observation. My reply was: "Want is not the issue". The issue is a blanket barrier by Uncle Sam on it's citizens' behaviour. Freedom you say?? Hummm..

Seriously this is just an observation, NOT any criticism

blah, blah, blah. Canadians are the only ones I've ever seen in the Emirates and elsewhere who plaster their flags all over their seats, and bumpers and everywhere else. I think they got both their sense of humor and nationalism from Germanic models.

Yah, let's go to North Korea. Ve Germans must get used to all climates in ze volrd!

Canadians can go anywhere including North Korea because their country has no geopolitical responsibilities in the world. Most Filipinos and others emigrate to Canada only when they can't get a US visa.

And neither would we if we didn't want to arrogantly keep building up our Empire. The only part of our budget that needs cuts is the military. We can take those billions and billions and billions and billions and billions of dollars and make life better for Americans... like providing decent healthcare.

If I were Canadian, I would wear my flag too... so no one would think I was American. Plenty of the ones you see are actually Americans trying to pass.
