Has anyone heard back from Dyncorp International for the position in Iraq?

Some are already receiving instruction in self-defence and the use of small arms. This 5-day course is provided on a military base in Georgia. Being able to teach Headway is not enough. You have to know how to use body armour and handle a pistol.

"This is your copy of Azhar's Grammar Book. Here is your body armour. And now your 38 and six rounds."

Dear scot47,

A .45 would be preferable, and I think that's what they're issued.

Regards,
John

A .45, however, is notorious for being largely unstable and difficult to aim. I don't think that the U.S. military even has a M1911 in it's arsenal anymore...opting for the more accurate, high-capacity 9mm...

Dear NCTBA,

Having shot expert with both the .45 and the M-14, I'll agree that the .45 has its faults. But for pure stopping power, it's aces.

John

No arguments there, John. I qualified expert on the .45, M16, M60 and M2HB...I held more than one MOS (I forget what the Marines called their specialties and the 14 was phased out nearly a decade before my time). I found that qualifying as I did easier on all of the others except the 1911, but the day I attempted qualification was a cold, snowy day at Ft. Knox.

That said, with nearly half an inch going down range, I always felt safe on the non-business end of the .45. Another thing about that weapon that impressed me was the redundant safety features incorporated into it...there were about 3 or 4, right?

Dear NCTBA,

"The M1911 has a half-cock safety, meaning that the hammer can be partially cocked; when it is in this position squeezing the trigger will not cause the hammer to fall on the firing pin. Another safety, common to many semi-automatic pistols, is that if the hammer is resting on the firing pin, pulling the trigger will not draw the trigger for firing as is the case with double action revolvers. When the hammer is cocked a thumb switch can be switched up for safe and down for fire. Finally, the M1911 had a grip safety, the weapon will not fire unless the user had a firm hold of the grip. This means that the weapon will not discharge if dropped, even if the trigger is bumped. The action is comfortable and easy, allowing the pistol to be carried cocked, but safe. The weapon can be drawn, the safety snapped off, and the pistol fired very quickly."

The safety features are great, but this is not a weapon you just pick up and start firing. You definitely need proper training in order to use it effectively and accurately, especially in combat conditions when the user is likely to be under severe stress.

Regards,
John

Dear egyptfan,

Scam - they'd NEVER use a Yahoo email address:

"DYNCORP INTERNATIONAL AFGHAN OPERATIONS WARNING

We have become aware of an internet scam using the DynCorp International name, and pretending to offer employment placement with DynCorp International Afghan Operation in return for payment to a recruiter. This scam may also involve a request for personal data in connection to a visa application for Afghanistan. The false recruiter contact may use an e-mail of [email protected], although other e-mail addresses or organization names may be used as well. Please do not send any money or any personal information to this organization or e-mail address, or to any other request for money to secure employment with DynCorp International or any of its subsidiaries.

DynCorp International has absolutely no connection with this internet scam. No legitimate recruitment effort by DynCorp International will ever include a request for payment from job applicants. Any attempts to request such payments should be reported to DynCorp International, to [email protected]."
