|
|
I'm a recent American college grad (B.A. in Political Science), and have a couple of years of Arabic language classroom experience + a summer study abroad experience in Amman. I am very interested in the possibility of teaching ESL for a year or two in Jordan. However, although I'm a native English speaker, I don't have any ESL certification (such as CELTA), and I don't yet have any teaching experience.
Would it be unrealistic to be able to find a teaching job in Jordan (preferably in Amman) with my limited credentials? How much would the likely monthly salary be? Is there medical insurance offered to ESL teachers in Jordan? What schools would be good to look into?
Although I would prefer Jordan, I might also be interested in working in other ME countries like Egypt, or Syria. Does anyone also know if I might qualify for work in either of these countries also with my limited credentials? Thanks! |

With no credentials or experience, you would not be able to get a teaching job that had any benefits, like insurance or housing. You would be on your own. I highly doubt that the pay that you get would even pay your living expenses. Another problem will be getting a work visa.
That goes for all of North Africa or the Levant. A CELTA would help you get a position, but the pay would still be very low with no benefits.

You can expect lousy pay and poor working conditions. |
