Well, the Indonesian forum has really gone quite. So, I thought this would be a good time for my first post. I thought I had my near future figured out, a CELTA course at TBI and then teaching in Indonesia. From what I have read, TBI has a good reputation. Indonesia is the perfect spot on the globe for me since I really enjoy diving. But, now, the english literature requirement has really upset those plans. My question for those experienced in Indonesian affairs, any thoughts on how long this requirement will stand? |

How long is a piece of string.
It being Indonesia they seem to like changing things as and when they feel like it. So could be in a month or a few years. You just can't predict the governments logic. |

I see. I was hoping to hear the change is causing such an uproar at the language schools that change is imminent. I guess I need to take a closer look at Thailand and Malaysia. |

It doesn't stand now. I haven't got an English Lit degreenot a BA for that matter (BS)and I work here legally, with no problems. Have been for 2 years. There are plenty without degrees or even TEFL certs who get a KITAS as well. Your school will use a fixer and will get it done.
Indonesia is like this. They change something and either no one does it or it seems to be at random. Either way, with a little patience, money and knowin the right people, anything can get done here. Good luck. |

I agree with godmachine. I've been teaching here for nearly two years and I doubt any of these new rules will be properly enforced.
It may take longer to get a work permit, but if the school needs teachers they'll pay someone to get the paper work done.
Like most bureaucratic things in this country, there are the rules and then there is the corruption that makes the rules irrelevant. |
