I can confirm I received the two generic emails quoted in this thread and can no longer log on. Unfortunate, it was very convenient and I believe the cheapest option.

At this point, I'd like to reopen the debate. JP Post or GoLloyds?

Well, that sucks.

If the choice is between the two then I'd choose Lloyd's simply for the ease of use factor. Japan Post is better if you are remitting, but the number of countries that will accept them is dropping rapidly.

But if we're simply looking for good options outright (beyond xe.trade) then my 2 yen would be having a CitiBank account in Japan and another Citi a/c in yr home country is easiest: online, free transfers between accounts. Rate is usually resonable. Furikomi into the Jpn account, and move from there.

I've always had to pay a fee (~3000 jpy) to transfer from my Japan citibank to US citibank account. Is this a new benefit? Or only citiGold maybe?

I'm opting for JP Post, too many hands in the pot with GoLloyds.

Here is my lowdown on using JP Post.

They just raised their fee to 2500 yen for Americans, so now on par with the other countries they will service. They told me their partner bank in New York would take $10.00, which they did, and my bank charged a $12.00 processing fee.

I think I will try Lloyds next, and see who reams me less. My guess is that they are roughly equal.

I am kind of tied in to my small regional bank via my BOE, not too sure how opening another account at a larger international bank would help me much in the end, since I still must keep the account I have.

Given that the yen is really in my favor, I don't have much to complain about, except in principle, since the fees seem totally arbitrary in a digital banking system.
