|
|
For a working/teaching visa in the UAE, I understand that I need to undergo a physical/medical check-up in the UAE. What exactly will they check for? What diseases, medical conditions and narcotics?
Thanks, |

Chest xray to check for TB - but some have had issues not because of TB but because something (a broken rib having scarred the lung etc.) shows that looks like a TB scar
Blood test AIDS, HIV and probably other STDs - don't know if they test specifically for narcotics but it wouldn't surprise me. |

MEDICAL CHECK FOR RESIDENCE VISA
Soon after arriving at the university, each faculty member and dependent will be required to do two things. First, a pre-employment physical examination is required at the University Health Center (UHC). Please bring with you your chest x-ray or a signed medical chest x-ray report from your physician (required for faculty member only). Second, for UAE residence, you will be required to have a HIV test through the UHC. This testing is obligatory for all expatriates seeking employment in the UAE, even if you have recently completed the test in your home country. Results from tests (HIV only) undertaken by other labs will not be accepted. The university will arrange dates and times of testing.

that's what one university does. i've NEVER had a pre-employment physical. and i have been tested for hepatitis. and some of the women i worked with had to take a pregnancy test.
be prepared for the maximum in the uae, not the minimum. |

I disagree a bit... Saudi does the maximum... requiring complete silliness like testing for bilharizia amongst its dozens of tests of all possible bodily fluids.
The rest of the Gulf is pretty simple in comparison... including the UAE. Your list above was very skimpy...

but that is the max in the uae. op asked about the uae. i know saudi is the worst. someone posted a university exam asking for only tb and hiv, and that is the minimum in the uae.

You do tend towards hyperbole Mr HORROR... You made it sound like a BIG deal... whereas the "maximum" is still pretty minimal. An x-ray... blood test... and maybe a pregnancy test... (never heard of anyone getting one of those, but perhaps in the schools)
