|

Hi there, I am currently teaching here in Hanoi, Vietnam and am planning to visit the Istanbul area this June to look at a few schools. I've been teaching for one year here in Asia (Vietnam and China), and desire a change of scenery.
I've been hearing how tough it is to find work in Turkey from further afield and so I've decided to try my luck in person. I plan to stay in Turkey for one week on a return ticket back to Asia (as insurance). I've read about UKLA and I'm thinking it might be a good place to start. But are there other schools in which I should avoid or take a closer look into? Also, do anyone know of schools that are willing to hire teachers from afar (such as those in China?). I am looking for a full-time contract with either housing or an allowance thrown in. And although I enjoy teaching kids, I would also like to start teaching adults regularly as well. Oh, I am from the USA, but prefer to use British English (including 'mate'). Anyways, I would appreciate any suggestions. Cheers! Clifton |

If you do a search on this you'll see a number of schools which you should avoid. The 'English Time' chain is the most widely criticised. I can say from personal experience that you should never take up employment with this company.
I don't know about Istanbul, but in Ankara I just walked round the schools, handing in my CV. Got a job within a few days. Perhaps you could google a list of schools in Istanbul, before you go, get their addresses and numbers, and hand your CV into a few of them? |

Yes, I have read about English Time not being good and will definitely give them a pass. Thanks for the advice, and will start my Google search of schools in IST in the next few days. I'll also try and find other schools to give a pass to. Cheers. |
