I'm moving to China in a few weeks for a teaching job. I have to see the doctor to make sure I don't have anything like HIV or hepatitis.
I would assume they are doing a blood test to check for these things. So I was wondering if they also test for drugs.
I live in a state in America that has legalize medical marijuana and I have a recommendation to use marijuana for a back injury I suffered in a car accident. When I arrive in China I will have been off medical marijuana for 1 month so I should be fine but there is still a small chance I might test positive.
What are the odds that they will test for marijuana ? |

lol California, where you can get "medical marijuana" for stubbing your toe.
No the medical check will not interfere with your toking habits. |

Thanks for the quick answers! Just to clarify, i'm not some stoner pot head. I really do use it for a legit medical reason (crazy i know, right). I won't be smoking for the next month before I leave for China so I'm not too worreid. Was just curious, I'd hate to pay to fly out there only to get sent back |

I don't know if this is everywhere in China, but my last physical they took a piece of my hair to test for previous drug use. They put the results of the test in my little medical book. It included a test for opiates, stimulants, HGH and THC. I guess they use the hair method as it can show drug use as much as seven years prior.
There are two ways to get around this problem. One, shave your head and any other region where you might have hair. That is what I did the night before my exam. Your second option is to get a letter from your doctor at home stating what the marijauna was used for. As marijauna is used in a variety of Chinese medicines, its use is allowed with the permission of a practitioner of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Possession of drugs is a crime in the People's Republic of China, this includes possession within the bloodstream. So if you do go into your medical exams with drugs in your system and they test your blood, you can and will go to prison. Thirty days of not smoking is not a guarantee that you system has flushed everything. You might want to try drinking a liter of apple cider vinegar everyday for a week.
Follow my advice and you will be fine. |

The drugs tests are looking for opiates (so far as I know).
They may also be looking for marijuana, but they take blood samples AND urine tests (not hair-- in all these years, I have never had a single hair taken from me).
But if you are going outside of 30 days, then you should just stop smoking the dubois. And that will be enough time for it to clear out of your system. |

Why would the thread be locked ? It's a very legit question. You don't have to agree with it or like it but in many parts of America marijuana is a legal medication you can get from doctors.
Asking questions like these before moving to a foreign country is very valid.
In fact medical questions and legal questions is probably the most important thing you want to ask about before moving to a new country. You'd be stupid not to. |

If now you smoke pot for a legit medical reason, why won't you need it next month and during the time you are in China? I hope you can understand the skepticism. I would give your "medical condition" more time to recuperate. Like you say, you wouldn't want to be sent back. |
