I was wondering if there is a time of year when most hiring of teachers for 1 year contracts is done. Im just hoping that not all the hiring is done for the fall or something like that.
Im really just clueless.
Is there hiring and new jobs beginning all year long, from your experience? For instance, is it perfectly reasonable to expect to get a job in February just as much as it would be in August?
Thanks a lot!!! |

You need to be a little more specific about what kind of job you're looking for...
Private academies hire all year round.
University semesters start around March 1st and September 1st. The good unis have their hiring done 2-3 months before these dates, although there are often last-minute job opportunities. Keep in mind, your selection will be limited.
NOW it will be very difficult to get a decent job as everything grinds to a halt for the Chinese New Year holiday. For pretty much the next month people either aren't working, or they won't be working, so there isn't time to process visa documents etc. for jobs until late February. |

There may be a little flurry near to start date in Feb as there are always 'no shows'. Get a 6m gig at a language school in the city you like and once there go around the colleges and unis (just front the FAO) and ask to be considered for September. Have a look at the classrooms and staff caf. BUT most of all check out the apartment! |

Remember, you will have 6m experience by that time plus an existing visa record. If you do an ESL course as well, come September, you'll be irresistable to a good uni or college.
You may of course like language school work so much that you'll stay in that field! |

Actually, this is one of the best pieces of advice I have seen on this forum. Before you get roped into a long term contract, get a short gig and see how you like the school and the area. Once you are in-country, it is much easier to scout out longer term possibilities. I think there's no need to insult one of the members who is trying to help you. |
