| The complexity of the Polish Language is a conspiracy to prevent foreigners learning it. Back in the 1960;s - when Comnrade Gierek was still in charge I made some attempts to acquire Polish. Results were pretty minimal. 39 years later I learned Bulgarian with minimal effort. The Bulgarians have gone down the same road as the Angles. They just simplified the language ! |

Man... today was one of those bad days. Ill admit it is slightly embellished, but all of it is fact.
I wake up... its cold as f in the house. Turns out some city main somewhere blew up... no hot water today and possibly tomorrow. Third time this winter.
Im half conscious and get inside my car. I look left then right and wtf... where are my side mirrors? Turns out some thief pried them out... just the mirrors. wtf
I get to work. "The director, his eminence, wants to see you". Great. "Unfortunately this year wasnt good, so we are all gonna have to make some sacrifices, we're going to have to cut your salary by 5%." I was going to ask for a 10% pay raise that day.
I finish my morning lessons. Oh, a phone call from my lawyer. "Well, about our lawsuit against those dicks who stiffed you out on 5000zl. Turns out one of our partners is good friends with them so we wont take the case. Sorry"
I need some food. I go to my regular supermarket. I buy 2 bananas, a pepper, some bread, and fish sticks. 30zl. Food is going to bankrupt me.
I make it home. I get out of my car and pppphhhtt I step into a massive pile of dogsht. I look around the sidewalk. There are about 10-15 massive piles in a space of 10 meters. They werent there last night.
I'll end it here, cause it doesnt get any better.
Poland. It kills ya sometimes. |

That sounds about right!! That crazy country can wear ya down at the best of times....why not consider getting out?
I know what it's like:when you're there and trapped it feels like there is nothing better out there.You grow into the negativity and bullsh@#....it becomes part of you. There is something better out there and it's waiting for you:) |

I've loved most of my five-odd years here in Krakow but a year or two ago I started to turn into one of those expats who spends half his time complaining about Poland and the Poles. Whilst I have to agree with most of what they said, I didn't want to get the same so I started making plans. Unfortunately, those plans included selling a flat I'd only just - mistakenly - bought without taking too much of a hit.
Now it's sold and I'll be outta here next month before I change my mind and get involved with some lovely lady, her brothers. sisters, parents, aunts and uncles.
If you're not happy and can afford to leave, do so. It's still a big world out there.

Most of this stuff could happen in ANY country. While not file it under "a crappy day" instead of "Poland. It kills ya sometimes"?

| I would have to side with Master Shake. I have read most of the complaints about prices and wages in Poland, and simply don't understand what people are doing with their money. Those fish sticks must be special. |

sure. but to be fair to all other countries, you've got more of a chance of having days like this in Poland than most developed countries. considering the country's recent history of communism, low pay, old world old fashioned way of thinking, disastrous infrastructure, crummy weather......it's a good place to find a lousy day. |

Replace Communism with any other government, be it Labour or Thatcherite Conservatives, and this statement would also apply to Britain. You're not making much of a point here. |

Look, that was a bad day. Of course the same could happen anywhere to anyone, it just happened to me that day and it sucked. Btw, almost all those problems that I listed actually got resolved in some way or another, plus Ive got a few really promising opportunities here in Poland that would outdo anything Id probably find back in the US. Far from doom and gloom, its looking bright and cheery.

That's the spirit!
I wouldn't go back home to the States to work right now for all the fish sticks in a super TESCO - economy still sucks and tons of competition for even the crappy jobs.
Poland has its problems, but right now for teachers there seems to be no shortage of work here in Warsaw. |
