First of all, some of the posters that seem to be trying to help have been a bit rude and using some abusive terms.
Second, if a place truly sucks, an option might be to relocate. Like I said, in Latin America, many hold the belief that bigger is better.
The only way to lose weight long term is to make life-long changes. Walking is the best exercise and what the human body was designed to do. No gym memberships or equipment. If the OP is in SE Asia it must be hot as $#%!, so that helps. Eat a "local" diet, walk a lot and that will help you to drop pounds and feel better as well.
But being "big" doesn't mean a person is not fit. There are many folks that have some extra pounds and are in good shape, able to walk for miles and miles, with all their "levels" (B/P, cholesterol etc) at "normal" levels. |

Hey folks, this gal came to the forum to ask for some ideas about where she might meet with LESS verbal abuse. What does she get? Alot of you are pouring on more. She doesn't need or want that, and she's not looking for your advice or opinions about her appearance. She's asking for places where people are less judgemental, and just look what we gave her. My apologies to the OP. Hope you find a better place.

Agreed. The OP isn't looking for diet tips. There are a billion places online and in actual life where that is available. An ESL forum isn't on that list. She's asking for advice about where she might meet with less ostracism and ridicule based on her size. I've faced this my whole life long and have developed a pretty thick skin (perhaps both literally and figuratively! ) about others' regard of my size and shape, but really guys? Really?
I'll stick with my SEA advice of Thailand. Other than that I don't know. |

| I am writing back for a few reasons: first to thank the posters who offered positive suggestions. Second to say that I am now in Thailand and having a marvellous time. Thai people are very gracious and the people come in all shapes and sizes. Third, to speculate why after posting a simple query I am suddenly being labelled as obese when I never described myself as such. But lastly, I would like to state that while ridiculing someone may lead to weight loss in a very minute amount of cases, usually the effects are detrimental. I have taught numerous females (and a few males) from various SEA countries who are considered slender to average size in Western society yet have succumbed to disordered eating and/or undergone plastic surgery due to the ridicule they received in their home countries. I find it baffling that anyone who teaches would advocate ridicule as an effective means of positive change. I also find the use of some of the language used on the board problematic. The word fattie is ignorant, as is giving someone diet tips that they didnt ask for. This is exactly the same as giving skin whitening tips to the dark complexioned. Perhaps I am naive but I really believe that the job description for a teacher, particularly one dealing with students from a different culture is open mindedness and tolerance two words that do not describe those who ascribe to physical ideals. |

I was going to offer a suggestion but I see you are now in Thailand. Glad to hear you enjoy it and feel more comfortable For future reference, and some may disagree, but I know plenty of plus-size ladies who did not experience this discrimination in Singapore (yes, even those who knew Mandarin!). |
