Maybe you can suggest drawing up a second contract regarding your required legal paperwork. State that a time frame of three weeks or 30 days from .... date, all your legal paperwork requirements will be supplied and be current. If this is not so, the school accepts it has failed in it's responsibility and will release you from your contract forthwith, plus provide you with a release letter to boot.

Just an idea.... probably stupid one though... haha

Precisely. The school I'm at recently told the other foreign teacher and I that they will change our current contract and start charging us for utilities in our apartments. We asked what would happen if we refused to sign the new contract. They said they would subtract the utility bill from our pay. What are we going to do? I know what I'm gonna do.

Run.

Foreigners don't win battles in China. You're just bringing undue stress upon yourself.

Yeah, I've had a migraine for about two weeks now. I'm really beginning to fear a stroke. I've got the perfect cure.

By the way, once my cure is complete I'll be posting a warning about this place. I'm actually angry with myself, I had a bad feeling about it from the start. Shoulda gone with my gut instinct.

Like so many other things in China you can easily fake your way around a bad reference. Hell, these are Chinese Universities you are talking about. You could easily wander one province over, get a new job, and never mention your old job.

Just remember one thing, you are not obligated to stay at this school. A contract takes two parties to uphold and your boss clearly fractured it long ago. I'd wait till the end of the term though as I tend to try to think of my students a bit, but should my boss proof too much more unreasonable, I'd brush him off like a piece of diseased meat and leave.

First, don't listen to the threats. If your boss is seriously threatening you with the police just to scare you and make you compliant, then it's time to leave. Forget the documents. Take a holiday. Apply for other jobs, and come back. Do your homework about the employer next time, and don't work for scum.
