| I've found out in a reasonable amount of time right? I don't leave until mid-end of March for training. |

If you mean for the COE, then you're probably okay. But you need to find out when they intend to start the COE process. At this point if they said they would have it ready and hand it to you on arrival then it might be okay... but if they say that they will start the COE process when you arrive, then you should be suspicious.
Do they already have all the paperwork they need from you to start the COE application process? |

| If they have officially hired you, there is no reason they cannot start the COE process immediately. None. Since it takes 2-8 weeks, and this is the busy time for immigration, it would only be prudent (and common sense) to do it ASAP. |

| For about the last year, due to "increased security protocols" (so they say) it has been taking on average about 6 weeks for us (the school) to receive a COE from the time we submit the documents and application. |

So I've gotten an email from Joytalk with the official offer of employment attached along with what I need to send to them ASAP to start the COE process. They also told me all about what I need to do in terms of when to meet and what location for training including where to find hotels if I wanted to come before the training dates. (During training, meals and other accommodations will be provided by them)
It seems like they are really trying to get the ball rolling with this as soon as they can, which is awesome.
~how to go about getting my international License become I go.
~A list of questions to answer for immigration.
~Directions to the hotels and the meeting spot.
Yeah it was a long email... Has anyone else that interviewed heard back? |

| Okay, so I just emailed them all of the information they need to get my visa processed. We'll see if it gets processed in time. ^_^ |

XiaoBilly, have you heard anything back from Joytalk yet? I'd like to know if I'm having some company this spring semester! ^_^

Hmmm, Not sure about that ever. The public school kids have breaks during that time and the JoyTalk ALTs work in the public schools not eiwaka so they might have that time off too. Don't quote me on that though. It's just a guess. |
I couldn't answer this question before but I can now. They included this information in my offer of employment packet. ALTs have a 4 week break (I assume during the summer) a 2 week break (during the winter) and 5 personal days you can take as well in addition to the holidays(unless there is a teacher's meeting or something). During the summer you receive 75% of your paycheck even though you aren't actually working and in the winter, I'm quite sure you receive your whole paycheck even though you are only working half the month. |

OK So I just got an e-mail inviting me to be interviewed via Skype for Joytalk. It's the first interview I've got in a fair few tries so I'm very excited, but I'll have to do it all early tomorrow morning because I'm going to London from 9am Wednesday till Friday, then to my dad's for his birthday on the weekend.
Thanks inuzuki for posting info about the interview process. My Japanese is beginner level but I really want to improve it which is one of the reasons I applied. I can get by in day to day life, but having bigger conversations makes me a little nervous. Still I'll suit up, grab some coffee and water and try my best! I just hope there's still enough time for them to get a COE and visa processed 'if' I get the job. Wish me luck ok? |

Hey! I'm so happy to hear that you got an interview! If you get Grant, he is great and understands if you are a bit nervous about the Japanese part of the Interview. Just keep smiling~! HAHA. Yeah... I understand about it being early. It's tough... At this point, they could try to bring you over in April or May but I'm not at all sure about that.
Good luck with everything and make sure you tell us how it went!! we'll be waiting!! |

Just finished my interview. Got Grant, he was a great guy, really nice and positive. Tried to smile as much as I could without seeming weird, but he made that very easy by being a cool guy. The interview seemed to go well, so here's hoping for the best. I decided to ask for 230k per month like Inuzuki did, hopefully that'll be fine with them, did say I'd be flexible if they put me in the country where the cost of living's lower. He said my Japanese was fine, and that he liked that I was very keen to improve it.
All I really said was that I was flexible, could drive if needed, could teach little kids but knew more about teaching JHS level. I said a mixed option could be good for me as it would give me experience with little ones, but also that I was really keen on clubs and things and would love to help out the soccer team or drama club especially. My song was 'Teddy Bear's Picnic' which he seemed to like a lot.
I'm hoping for the best, but am really not sure if I made a good impression or not. He seemed to like the questions I asked him, about health insurance and kinds of apartments, I hope I didn't come off as rude. He also liked that I had a family history in teaching or seemed to anyway.
I said I liked the system of spreading the initial costs for apartments over the length of contract. It does seem quite sensible to me. My car cost got quoted at around 18,000 p/m too, and my UK licence means I can just transfer it into a Japanese one when I need to without taking any further test. Which is awesome.
Anyway, he seemed very nice, I hope I came across the same way. I wore my suit and had a coffee and water with me, interviewing at 1am is hard though. |

Hey Dark Machine! Don't worry about the questions you asked because I asked the same things and got hired. I think they expect you ask those things so they don't that it personally when you do.
Grant is sooooooo awesome! He and he was the one that that sent the proposal email too and has been a great help already in helping me prepare to leave. He even found me a hotel I could stay in the first night I was there. (Okay, fine, I'm sure they've had that hotel on file for ages haha) But still, it was nice not to have to look for one. |

Haven't heard anything, so I just dropped the idea of working in Japan as an English "teacher". I've applied to many eikaiwas and ALT positions the past year, and only gotten two Skype interviews, and two other offers with Interac and another company, but I couldn't afford to go in person for an interview.
I'll wait until I'm qualified to do a non-teaching job in Japan. The market is too flooded. I got to live my year as a student there, so I'm satisfied with that. |
