| I am a burly, hairy, he-man and I cannot use a cheap disposable razor, but the Gillette mach 3 works fine for me...buy 'em at my local supermarket here in China. |

I've seen a few Mach 3's but razors are small and light enough, when you come here and have limited spending money you might as well avoid the expense if possible. I've never seen shaving cream......but i'm in a smaller city so yeah it depends on where you're at.
Basically, the first things I buy when I get to a new city is laundry detergent, dish soap and hangers......
Shampoo and body soap are easy so you don't need to lug yours from home. |

I use a safety razor. How common are double sided razors in China? I figure I'll just care package some over if I can't find them there.
How's the toothpaste situation as well? Do they have known brands (crest, colgate, etc.)? |

| In Changchun western deodorants should be available at Watsons. This is a happy development of only the last several years. |

Yeah, but the Chinese toothpaste is just as good and a lot cheaper (some interesting flavors, too). One thing I had a difficult time finding at first was dental floss, but sometimes you have to hunt around in the store for it, it's not with the rest of the dental care products. |

| Thanks again to everyone for their responses. I arrived in Changchun a few days ago and have made a few trips to the supermarket. I brought a year's supply of deodorant and razors, so I haven't really looked for those, but I've been pleasantly suprised at how easy it's been to find everything else I've been looking for, and then some. |

They keep changing the Z visa requirements but at one time I had to give them an original of my diploma and I never got it back. Luckily I had already requested a original copy from my university so I still have an original. If you don't bring it and you need it...? then what? Maybe leave it with someone that can mail it to you in a pinch. Better safe then sorry, I would suggest bringing it. |

And when was this and which province/consulate? your story strains credibility. |

It was in Beijing 2009. Really, it strains credibility that the visa rules change constantly in China. How long have you been here? |

I heard about the original diploma requirement many times several years ago.

That's all anyone needs to know. All you former Boy Scouts out there, remember your motto: BE PREPARED. |

You can often find it in the electronics dept. |
