Hi Everyone,
I am currently searching for English teaching jobs in Saudi Arabia, and I was wondering if anyone can touch base on typical hiring process for ESL teachers in Saudi Arabia?...
Thank you Much! |

I would say that rather than 'process', the OP should be focusing on 'Selection Criteria'.
What these mights be, varies considerably from one institution to another.
For university foundation/preparatory programmes, they expect the obvious requirements of a primary degree, some respectable TEFL or teaching certification, and anything from three years of experience upwards. Preference is given to candidates with an MA in TESOL or Applied Linguistics (see another recent thread) but this is not always necessary if you have the right kind of experience, especially experience of teaching academic English subjects such as reading and writing.
In industry, while postgraduate qualifications can sometimes help, the main focus by far is on relevant experience, and previous Saudi experience is highly valued.
Secondary and high-schools usually look for mainstream teaching qualifications, e.g. B. Ed., PGCE, etc, and obviously, experience of teaching teenagers/young learners, and maybe national curricula of stated countries.
The language schools are often less fussy, and may just seek TEFL certification and very little experience, but their packages are dismal.
Some - less reputable - employers may just hire you because they like the sound of your name or the look of your photo!! No, I'm not entirely joking ... |
