Hey,
So I'm currently teaching at an institute in Bogot, but I'm interested in University positions. I have a BA that isn't in Education or English, and a CELTA.
I've seen ads for University positions and usually it seems they want a Masters and/or 2 years experience teaching in a University.
I'm not at all convinced that these requirements are strictly held to. Does anyone have any experience getting hired in a University with only a CELTA and a BA? Let's hear the stories. |

I think there are definitely ways around these requirements and Unis will definitely hire you. The problem is (at least the one I ran into) is they want you to have legal working status on your own and don't want to help you. They get excited as all hell for a native teacher and then they don't do anything to help you get the visa, even though you can't obtain a work visa without being sponsored by an employer.
That leaves you the option of being part-colombian to obtain legal status, marrying a colombian, or obtaining an investors visa (the last one I don't think even allows you to work for other companies, but I really don't know.) |
