The idea is to teach online via Skype video and work about 25 hours per week. Bali looks good but Im not sure about the internet. I don`t want to make monthly visa runs if I can help it. |

Lots of places in the Philippines would work.
Cheap (much cheaper than Manila or Cebu) living in places like Tagbilaran (Alona Beach if you want to Google the tourist version) and the Philippines is pretty generous in regards to visa extensions and long term stays as a tourist.
You will have to make a quick trip to the immigration office every 2 months but you can stay for up to 2 years on your tourist visa then take a cheap flight/weekend in Hong Kong and then return and repeat for another 2 years.
Another advantage is that you can use English for your daily commerce and living and not have to worry about learning a new language (although that is an option).
You can get wireless broadband (smart or globe) in most of the larger cities in the country for about p1200 per month (prepaid in p200 increments) and speeds of 2-4mbps (up and down).
If you actually rent a newer apartment or house you can get ADSL/VDSL (at 10mbps down and 4mbps up) for about p1000 on a 1 or 2 year contract.
There are lots of places that do internet video teaching based in the Philippines.

Wow excellent information! Sounds like an excellent base of operations. I love sailing and snorkeling as well and would have plenty of time to persue those sports. Thanks again brother! |

It does sound good - very useful information and something to keep in mind. I recall reading about rioting on the streets not long ago but that was Manila. For the most part the Phillippines seem peaceful enough and as with many places, the further away you are from the major cities, the cheaper it's likely to be. I'm assuming though that you can't legally work /run a business there on a tourist visa. |

I agree, the Phillipines would be a good place to live and work online. India would also be good for a low cost place where an American can get a long visa, and have high speed internet. Does anyone else out there have suggestions? |
