www.muscatdutyfree.com doesn't seem to have much in the way of info...

I know 2L is the limit, I don't want to risk bringing booze through in my luggage, how much for say 1 botl spirits and some beers, say?

Cheers

If you bring more than your allowance (2L spirits), through, you will be taken into a side room and be told that it will cost you 5 OR per extra litre and if you insist on keeping more than that (ie,2 or more litres extra ), well I don't give you much chance of staying long. Especially if you have been met by your employers rep. Go dry for as long as it takes, is that a problem?? If so, buddy you don't want to come to Oman or any other ME states that has such restrictions.

Oh yes, do not be fooled into buying extra booze after you get through visa/customs control at Muscat airport. Every case has to be re-scanned on the exit gate. The contents of every case/bag will be scrutinised. You want to take a chance? It is up to you.

Duffy, I don't think he was suggesting bringing more than the limit. I think he was asking the actual price of booze. He doesn't want to carry anything in his bag and wants to buy at the duty free in Muscat upon arrival.

Say 12 rials for a bottle of whiskey, maybe the same for the beers. Think 25 rials total and you can't go far wrong. I'm sure someone has more up to date info.

I don't think there is beer in duty free - and I think 7 rials will buy you spirits.

This is abject nonsense anyway, as the Arrivals Duty Free Shop at Muscat airport is actually located BEFORE the customs inspection barrier.

The OP should not be deterred by the negative disinformation of the above post. You can purchase 2 litres of wine or spirits (spirits are MUCH better value, however) from the selection on offer at the 'duty free' shop on arrival. Prices are more expensive than the in-country liquor stores (for which a permit is required), but still reasonable at around OR 7 to 12 for a litre of spirits or liquors, depending on what you wish to buy.

And 'Duffy', FYI, the last time I flew into Muscat Airport, the Customs Officer waved aside my attempt to put the carrier bag containing duty free purchases through the X-Ray machine.

Beer is available. I bought a 12 pack of heineken just over a month ago, and I can distinctly remember Guiness being there when I have come through before.

I don't even intend to get near the 2L mark, would just like to pick up one bottle while there...may as well take advantage of it as a non muslim until I get the permit, I certainly won't bring any booze in my luggage, not worth the hassle.

Cheers again
