|
|
Hi all,
I'm in the process of applying for my work (z) visa through the Chinese Embassy in Sydney. I'm currently living in Indonesia and need to know if it's ok for me to get my health/medical certificate completed by a doctor here.
I've tried calling the emabssy in Sydney, but it's just a recording and no one picks up the phone. Does anyone know how stringent the Chinese Embassies generally are on where you get your medical check/lab report? Any specific experience with the embassy in Sydney would be even better.
Thanks |

I'm not too sure about the Sydney Consulate-General but when I rang the Embassy in the ACT (I'm guessing that is where it's situated) they told me to just get the medical once in China. A school I had been in contact with had told me I could get the medical done here in Aus but the embassy didn't seem to know anything about approved hospitals. I have a feeling I will need to ring them again though as I'm not entirely sure if the girl understood me.
As for ringing them, you can only ring the one in the ACT between 2 and 4 pm weekdays. It's ridiculous and Sydney might be the same. |

Thanks for sharing your experience Timer. It's definately hard to get some solid information on the matter. I called the consulate in Sydney during the listed time, but still no answer. After 30 minutes on a long distance call, I thought it time to give up.
Choudoufu, the initial plan was to apply in Jakarta. But my Chinese employer has just informed me the Chinese government no longer accepts applications for a work (z) visa from a third country. |

I'm just going by what I have been informed. My employer is a well established international school hiring 30 or so foreigners per year. So I can only presume the specific information they've been given is correct. If it is anything like Indonesia, then different departments in various regions will have varying requirements. This seems to be the new requirement for international schools in Beijing. |

It is worth talking to someone in the Chinese embassy in Indonesia to find out for sure. You can save yourself a hell of a lot of trouble by doing it locally (if you can).
By the way you do have to do two medicals. Unless they have changed the rules. One in your home country and one in China. |

I always thought we do the medicals once when we arrive in China. I also dont like how we need to do them every year when teachers in international schools only do them the first year they arrive. |

In China, you just have to do, what you have to do. If you think having a
medical once a year is a problem, just wait till you start working there. Believe
me it will be the least of your problems. Also if you think that you are being
unfairly treated because some other fella doesn't have to do his medical
assessment next year because he works in an international school. Just think
of that poor peasant farmer out west who cannot afford proper medical
treatment either for himself, his wife or family. His reason is that he may be
pulling the grand sum of 500-800rmb a month. |
