Does anyone have any information regarding Tengzhou as a place to take up residence and teach? I've done some research on the Internet and surprisingly can't find too much about the place. I'm hoping someone here has actually lived there or has some reliable information about the city, cost of a furnished apartment, climate and access to western amenities when it comes to shopping for food and wanting to eat at a western restaurant. Thanks for the help. |

I've been there a few times. It is big, at least compared to where I live, but still a small city. Still, there is really nothing to do and you will be one of a very small handful of Laowais in town. There are two there right now that I know of.
The good thing is that the D train stops there, so you can escape now and then. The bad thing is you are still in cold, gray, flat Shandong and you will need to.
It is cold in the winter and hot in the summer. Make sure that your digs will have an electric hot water heater and an air conditioner.
Western food? KFC and Dicos.
Don't do it for less than 5000. |

Thanks for the very helpful information. Salary is quite high so not a concern. What is a concern at this point is that I have the ability to escape the place by train or plane if I want a change of scenery for a few days. Sounds like this may be the case from what you wrote so I am feeling better about the prospect of living and working there. |
