If that is true, I would hate to see the ones who have been rejected. Some of the fattest and ugliest people I have ever seen are FT's in China!

I think it really does show more of a concern for physical appearance than the ability to teach

Its always been that way, its just getting more specialized. Caucasian face, pulse, not too fat, not too short.

I'm nothing to salivate over. But if I were to send a "full body" picture, I'd send a picture of me with a bunch of happy kids. I have some great shots of me and my classes for just this purpose should it ever come up. If you teach older students, you can still do something along these lines for future use. If the competing applicants send boring pictures of themselves, I would think this could work much to your advantage.

I asked the person who sent the email about the request. He sent me a long response explaining that it is becoming the norm because, apparently, some employers have unknowingly hired handicapped people and were not happy about that. No ADA in China!!

I usually send a picture of myself with a couple of fly honeys, one on each arm, Charlie Sheen style.

It stunning how falsely egotistical some around here are.

ADA? Why? Why should they? Why does every damn group different than us nice normal, health, superior white male folks think they deserve some special attention and protection?

China takes care of its own the way they choose to do so. Typical Chinese are nauseated at cripples, horrified of HIV/AIDS, and other non-standard teacher types in this field.

The only funny thing about this thread is that some FAO believes that a full body photo would reveal an artificial leg under the pants leg or some other deformity, etc. Interesting...

So, I guess being black where you're from is a disability, then?

That would depend on the neighborhood.

Also, I specifically request in my cover letter that they don't hate the playa, but rather the game.

Good Point. A Skype interview, facial photo, only reveals so much.

It's a shame, but, that's how it is; hopefully my Happy Buddha belly doesn't scare away any prospective employers.

Why not send them a photo of a gorilla? Or a penguin? Better yet, get a copy of that nude shot of a reclining Burt Reynolds they took back in the 70s.

When I worked in the Pentagon years ago with a T/S clearance, naturally we all had picture badges to get into our "secret" lair. We suspected the guards they used weren't Mensa members, so one day I pasted in a head shot of a gorilla onto my badge. Got in to our sactum for 3 weeks that way.

I've only been asked once for this and it was referred to as a 'lifestyle' pic.
When I asked for clarification I was told 'you know doing something you like'.
I think the point made above about a great shot of you teaching enthusiastic students is an excellent one.

Just go to a major airport.

US military officers have long been subject to having a full length photo in dress uniform on file. oft times appearance is very important.
