Kaw where were you when I needed you in How Do You Do It?
Thanks for the real info.
And thanks Paisley for page 2. Are these people really happy where they are? Did they used to pull the tails of dogs and cats as kids? Or maybe they still do. |

| I'd put a vote in for Korea. I've saved about 20 large and had a reasonably good time of it in the last year. Good school and students etc. Maybe China next. |

I've always thought teaching in Hell (Norway) would be good for a few giggles.

I've been there, it was frozen over, but their English was probably better than mine. |

Is650 & kaw - thanks for the info about indo ... both of you!
but i think indonesia isn't fo rme. of all the countries, it's one of the ones i think i'd like the least.
if you enjoy indo, that's cool ... i might visit there, but it isn't a working destination for me.
kaw - i think your summation of students' attitudes is the same almost everywhere ... it's like that in Taiwan and South Korea ... parents just want their kids to learn english for bragging rights ... the kids don't want to come.
nomadder - you know, i agree ... but the thing is, people who can hide behind the internet can behave however they want. who's going to stop them. my temper gets the better of me sometimes, but usually i try not to listen or respond to those people.
i just know this - take them away from the safety of their anonymous internet and things would be different, face to face!
there's always 5% who want to make things bad for everyone else. some say this about me, but i'm a reactionist ... i don't get going unless provoked. |

Taiwan can be a very profitable island. Taipei is becoming ultra modern but unfortunately the pollution can still be overbearing but there is still enough clean air within an hour of it to escape to. It's also a great locale for hopping to other countries.
If you're a man (or lesbian??) the women are beautiful (for the most part) |

I think Indo is okay for a first year overseas, but if you have some experience you can do better. I like my roommates and have been well-treated by the school (an EF, believe it or not) - but a year in dirty old Jakarta is just too much.
I'll never sign a contract in such a big, smoggy, ugly city ever again. |

So Paisley... have you decided? Don't forget to tell us where you end up. Perhaps the person who suggested the place you go to should get a prize?
Is there a deadline for suggestions? |

haha ... no prizes, sorry!
i'm not looking to make a decision for a couple of months. i'm trying to get some research in ahead of my current job finishing. i'll probably apply for jobs in a few countries and take what i feel is the best offer.
i might try taiwan or hong kong. cambodia and vietnam sound good too.
thanks for the useful comments so far! |

Dear paisleyavenger,
Regarding your "tag line":
| Quote: |
There are two types of people ...
1) people with a genuine, intelligent opinion
2) people who have 2000 posts on ESL cafe but have never said anything relevant or useful |
I've always liked this variation:
There are two types of people . . .
1) people who think there are only two types of people
2) those who know better
Regards,
John |

Wonder how Vietnam stacks up compensation-wise to Korea, Taiwan, and Japan.
If you're looking for a nice living then go with the Big 3 mentioned above. If it's adventure you're looking for, then about any country would do.
If pay is not important then look at: Czech Republic, Mexico, Russia, Turkey, UAE, Vietnam, Cambodia, etc.
