I must say I am surprised to read of someone reporting the DELTA being "unknown" in Australia. Could the friend be looking at ESL rather than EFL contexts?
CELTA has been offered in Australia for at least 20 years to my knowledge (back then via an affiliate of International House). DELTA courses are available in Australia, too. I'd expect this has been the case for some years now.
The University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate (UCLES) web is wide and Australia is a Commonwealth country .
I'd like to view the results of the poll but can't as I have no experience on which to base a vote . Can anyone report? |
Unknown was her word, but yes she meant it in a job context, in Australia. |

Guy Courchesne, what I mean is that the ESL and EFL contexts in Australia can be quite separate.
If applying for a job in some ESL settings there, the DELTA might either not be seen as an appropriate qualification or might simply not be a sufficient or recognised qualification (e.g. to teach in a primary or secondary school).
I'd find it a little odd if either were the case in an EFL context in Australia, though, unless your friend is applying for quite high level or non-standard positions.
(Don't mean to query the veracity of you or your friend at all -- the comment just piqued my curiosity).
MotherF, thank you! Why couldn't I see that before?! |

You're probably quite correct here.
The friend I speak of didn't go into enough detail about her job search for me to add anymore to her comments (let's see if I can coax her back onto the Cafe to help out). At the time she was rather discouraged that her CV wasn't received as well as thought for the job track she took through DELTA and the BC. |
