Mas o menos.
A literal translation is 'more or less.' But every Colombian I have met says 'so-so.' Who is the Jonny Appletree who planted this seed? 'More or less' is an acceptable idiom in American English. Stop propagating the falsehood, folks. |

Are you inebriated? It can mean either/or, depending on the situation. And there are subtle and not so subtle differences in the way Spanish is spoken from one country to another. |

| MNguy, you're right. I guess way back when they all had the same curriculum at public and private catholic schools, which taught them this. |

Perhaps. But the three Spanish speaking countries I've worked in (and counting!) all translate it the same way. It's a legitimate mystery... a veritable whodunnit of epic proportions.

| Yes, Theresa, there are subtle differences in the way words or idiomatic expressions are expressed. 'Mas o menos' is equal to 'more or less.' So why try to complicate things? |
