I have my FBI background check that was returned on 1/24/11. How long is it valid before I need to replace it.

Depends on where you are headed.
Some countries want a maximum of 6 months from date of issue.
Some are only 3.
Some don't care.

I am headed for Thailand.
I had a back-up but just found out that the local police department messed up the prints.

The Thai consulate in the states = I don't know.

Immigration in BKK you are good for 6 months from date of issue (IF they even ask for them).

Thanks,

I think I will resend the second one just in case. I can have someone forward it to me in Thailand. I am not sure how long it will take me to find a job.

If they DO require a CBC in Thailand, do they generally require an FBI check? Or would a local or state check (from the US) be sufficient?

I don't know. The school did the paperwork for me and they did not ask for a CBC. I provided it because I had it. Immigration was mainly interested in seeing an original degree. They did not want a certified copy or an apostille. I hope this helps but it may be more confusing.

State checks are fine. Apostille not required.

An Apostille is only required if it is asked for because they want you to send a COPY of your degree.

An apostille in itself does not guarantee the authenticity of a degree............merely that the copy is a true one of the original document.

British Public Notaries are, however, required by law to check the authenticity of the degree before issuing a seal (or stamp)on the degree, for the FCO to issue the Apostille certificate.
