Due to the disasters over here in Japan, I'm thinking of giving China a try. I've been reading this forum about visas. I certainly understand that it is illegal to WORK on a tourist visa. Still confused about other things though.
How about just COMING to China on a tourist visa, and then having the employer switch it to a working visa. Is that OK?
I think I read something that said "you must apply for a working visa from your home country". is that true? I'm American. I don't want to go from Japan to America to China. I want to go from Japan to China.
Should I get a tourist visa on my own when I start to look for jobs? Or should I wait until I get a job and then follow instructions from the employer about getting a visa?
Thanks, if anyone wants info about working in Japan, I can help. |

I've met some people who have come over on a tourist visa, found a job, and then made a visa run to Hong Kong to get their work visa.
The key is to convince your employer to pay for the visa run.
A Japanese travel agency may be able to get you a tourist visa. I had an American friend in Korea do this. If not, I THINK you can get a tourist visa in Hong Kong.
Good luck. |

it IS legal to work on a work visa.
just park yourself in front of your computer for a few days,
do some research, send out a hundred or so resumes
directly to schools you're interested in.
your new empolyer can provide the necessary documents to
enable you to apply for a work visa in japan. |

It depends on the location you are applying to. Not all cities will issue documentation for teachers who are not currently residing in their home country, and not all cities will allow documents for the HK visa run. You might have better luck in cities with laxer restrictions. |
