Hi Guys
Trying to get a Uni gig from outside of China and many of the emails I am sending are bouncing. What's up ? Don't they update their websites? what should I do - fax/phone?
I am ONLY interested in a Uni job and ONLY in a reasonable sized place since I have an MA and LOTS of experience I figure I can be a chooser. Any good leads out there?

I am having the exact same problem. Out of 12 schools I tried to contact, I heard back from 1, had 8 bounced back to me, and nothing from the rest. Job listings were relatively recent, too.

Eight out of 12 does seem high to me, as well. For universities, updating of websites falls into the category of maintenance, and maintenance sometimes gets short shrift.

Keep sending 'em bro.
Are you listed on a website so employers contact you rather than cold calling like you're doing?
Both strategies are part of a good job search but for unis this is the time they're listing on the job sites.
In my view 2/3 of your effort should be going into applying for jobs that are listed and 1/3 cold calling.

in my vastly limited experience, i've found that the
chinese are not much for using email. they much
prefer to use the phone (or text message).

in western lands, office folk hit the cubicle and check
their emails first thing. not in china - could be weeks.
so bouncing emails could be a sign that the mailbox
is overfull.

why full? you've got thousands of prospective
ex-backpackers mass-mailing their resumes to
every uni in china.

Now I got this same email 3 times from a recruiting website
"Thank you for your application.
We are very interested in you. Since you are such an excellent teacher, I hope you can come to teach in our school.
If convenient, could you please email me the copy of your passport, one recent photo and academic certificate if any? Then, I can arrange you a suitable position according to the information.
Look forward to your reply."
I answered them online and there was no way to send more than one doc with it.
They are driving me insane! Evil or Very Mad

Piglet,

In China, I've often encountered a lot of problems in sending and receiving email mesages - with attachments. Every now and then, a WORD document comes to me containing nothing but utter gibberish ! Maybe, to help ensure that an employer actually receives your Resume, you might want to consider converting such an important document to PDF format.

Also, don't send too many scanned documents together at the same time !
