Hi,

I'm moving to Yangon, Myanmar at the beginning of June and was wondering if anyone there or in Thailand knew of an overland (train, bus) route from Bangkok to Myanmar?

Thanks

I know you are probably doing this for budget reasons, but depending on just how much you need to budget, I'd definitely consider taking an Air Asia flight. I did this last year and remember it being quite inexpensive - though perhaps I got lucky on a promotion.

Unfortunately all the land crossings into Myanmar are closed for foreign nationals, except for the crossing into China from Ruili - although even that one is only open one way.

Buddhist monks may cross through the jungle, thats it.

To activate your Myanmar visa you must enter by air. This means a flight from Bangkok, Singapore, KL, HCMC, Kunming or Beijing into Yangon, or from Kunming or Chiang Mai into Mandalay. Air Asia into Yangon from either Bangkok or KL is by far your cheapest option. The earlier you book, the cheaper it is.

Air Asia has very low weight limits.

If you are moving to Yangon with a lot of baggage, it may work out cheaper [or about the same cost] to fly other airlines that allow more.
