Enjoy the holidays everyone. Who's got big plans?
I like staying in the city as it empties out but this year we'll be doing some beach camping along the Guerrero coast. |

I like to stay in the city and enjoy the quiet, too. I have a friend flying in from the US who's never been here before, so I'll be showing her around some.
Last year I went to San Miguel, and it was CROWDED.
Enjoy your vacation! |

Anyone been to the Iztapalapa passion play in DF? Quite the experience for a visitor to the city. |

I don't usually think to go to religious events, but it might be worth checking out. |

I will be spending Semana Santa in San Cristbal. It will be exciting to see the religious processions and celebrations, which I hope to record with my newish digital SLR. |

I've got a pile of projects around the house, we'll see how many we manage to get through. |

Yup. Off to the big city of Merida Tuesday through Thursday. Maybe some beach up in Sisal or Celestun. No progresso for me. Tulum possibly. We`ll see.
Other than that a few short projects such as transcribing a short story to desktop, putting some artwork on paper, reading great fiction. For those who don`t know, and that`s everyone on this site, the small city of Valladolid, Yucatan will be getting an English lending library. We have finished the cataloguing of the first 1000 book collection and are now putting pockets in. Wow! Good reading material for the next 10 years! |

We are doing our best to avoid the annual crowds of Semana Santa. It's totally nuts out there. Surprisingly, this Semana Santa is up over last year. We have vacationers from Monterrey, Durango, Nayarit, Torren, Saltillo, Chihuahua, Mexico City, Guadalajara, Sonora, and Baja California Sur. The hotels are at 100% occupancy, and there are people everywhere. Media reports claim that the numbers stand at 70 - 80% in Puerto Vallarta, Cancun and Acapulco, as opposed to the 100% here. Must be the cheap cervesa and seafood, because the hotels and taxi's certainly have (had) a tendency to gouge national tourists during this holiday.
Here is a glimpse of what I am talking about, from one of our popular beach areas. The tourists this week have been a breath of life for many vendors.

I was along the Costa Chica - everything east of Acapulco and it wasn't very busy at all the first few days. Thursday started to fill up quickly and by the time I left Friday there were no cabanyas or hammocks empty.
DF is dead quiet this weekend... |

Yes, it really is. I was barely even able to find enough places open to buy FOOD at the market, and the tortilleria was only staying open till noon, had already quit making tortillas, I was lucky enough to get one of the few remaining kilos. Tonight we are going to Cruz Azul-Chivas game, and then to have lunch with brother in law and family tomorrow, nothing spectacular, just a relaxing few days off. |
