Hi everyone,

I am new here and am looking for a teaching position in China.

I was hoping to apply to the British Council just on spec but can't seem to find any mention of an ELT Centre in any of the 3 branches they have in China on the net. Their website doesn't refer to teaching centres specifically.

Anyone have any idea or perhaps they have been closed due to cut-backs in gov spending in the uk ?

Thanks for any guidance.

There are thousands of jobs in China, so what is so special about deciding that ONE specific thing is the only acceptable choice? hmmmm, there is something fishy about intent here.

I don't see anything 'fishy' about asking for some help.

Anyway, if you can't help, why waste time replying. Perhaps there are others here who can help and who don't appear to have a chip on their shoulder.

Hoping you have another nice day today.

As far as I know, the BC doesn't teach in China, but it does testing. I work for the BC doing IELTS exams and as far as I know I have never heard of them offering courses here. They do exist though.

I also see little reason for doubting the OP. What i find "fishy", on the contrary, is the way this company operates on mainland China. It's got a minimal involvement here with most of the locals interfering in its operation.

The BC don't have any teaching centres in mainland China.

The BC does send teachers here. I have hired a few teachers who in the past came to China through the BC to teach at public schools. Also there is nothing fishy asking for information.

Yes, but that's just a programme whereby the BC helps Chinese public schools find new UK graduates who are interested in a year in China. The teachers are paid (a pittance) by the (usually well-off) schools and are not employed by the BC.

Forgive my observation but there are a few reasons why the IELTS scores, the locals achieve here, may be greatly compromised, and so may be the fine teachers or shall i say examiners on mainland.

I've tried to infer your meaning Igor, but I really can't work out what you're getting at. Care to explain?
