Get them out of their seats. Role plays, scavenger hunts or the classic game of 20 questions which doesn't get them movint but is good when you have a few minutes left in the class. Twenty questions is where you write something on a piece of paper that they all know. It could be a person place or thing. You answer yes no to their questions. They have 20 questions to guess what you have written. Don't make it difficult! I always start it with someone they know like Yao Ming and then go to something more difficult like the (blackboard) in the classroom. |

How many students in a class?
Can you take them outside or to a space where they can move around and maybe make a bit of noise? |

Buy a package of paper clips. They're cheap. I paid one Kwai for 100. Divide the class of groups of 5 to 7 Ss and give each two or three paper clips. Be sure you have both girls and boys in each group.
Tell them that the rules are you can't tell the truth. They're to ask each other questions and anyone answering the truth is required to give a paper clip to the asker. Anyone running out of paperclips can ask questions but not answer them. The object of the game is to accumulate as many paper clips as possible.
Model by asking a girl "Are you a boy?" If the answer is no it's "Paperclip please". They'll catch on quickly. You'll soon hear questions from boy to girl like "Do you love me?"
Be sure the doors are firmly closed. This gets noisy! |

Just as there is a job forum, there is also a teaching ideas area - use it. |
