I interviewed there. They were quite pushy. The contract said they would hold a total of about 1,500 yuan as some kind of security deposit. This was to be withheld from my pay, then I would get it back when I resigned, but only if certain requirements were met.
Another problem with the contract: if a student quits, you're responsible for the balance of their contract. I didn't feel like paying a deposit and possibly (probably) working for free, so I signed the contract to get out of there, and refused their appointments until they stopped calling.
I'm not paying a 'deposit' to work somewhere.

Retaining any part of a worker's salary is in contravention of Chinese labour law. Any organization that wants to do so should be subject to the highest level of scrutiny. It's a red flag.

It's "Hampson", and there are numerous threads. In Guangzhou certainly not recommended, and I guess the same elsewhere as the deposit requirement is likely everywhere. |

Thank for the info. Don't give me this bit about labour laws. I have been here to long and seen how the locals get treated. No laws is good for me as long as I know that there is no law enforcement.
I don't mind this bit about keeping money from students that leave but then you must give revenue sharing for the students that stay. |

Well, I don't know what qualifies as "too long". I've been here 11 years but wouldn't look at it that way.
We certainly aren't locals, and I'm sure we don't get treated like them.
Knowledge of the labour laws may be more useful in terms of prospective employer evaluation and contract negotiation than enforcement. You can see how far an employer wants to deviate from the law.
If you feel comfortable with it, and don't mind supplying your employer with interest-free loans, by all means go for it. Just don't whine if the cash evaporates.
I always include a clause in my contract that states that the labour law supercedes all contract clauses. Maybe I still have some small problems now and then, but I haven't been burnt badly on a contract since I learned how to revise them properly.

Perhaps you can convince them to change their standard contract. I mean, agreement.
No offense please, but the only mention of a bonus of any type or kind amounted to about 200 RMB per month.
If someone bails halfway through a 9,000 RMB contract and they decide you owe 4,500, they get paid your salary twice for every hour you work to pay it off. They have every incentive to create a penalty. If you quit, they keep your deposit! They're Bi-Winning!
I hate myself for making a Charlie Sheen joke.
My opinion; run away. Just my 2 jiao.
