I don't know. Dave's is mostly North Americans and only a small fraction of foreigners in China will read or post here.

Nanchang should be a big city for that area. Small towns usually have expats end up socializing with locals they meet at work. The fewer expats in a place, the more spread out they become. If there are no expat hangouts in your area, you may have to resort to going to English corners in the city or in language centers. It's great for beginner expats or people who enjoy that sort of thing. It sucks eggs if you're looking for community.

You can create a website for expat nightlife, post some flyers at places where expats work and live. Good luck !

I agree. I spent a year there and they have the most spread out expat community in China. You learn to stay spread out, even where you work. Don't bond or you will become a target.
It is a very beautiful place in China. I liked it there along with my Chinese wife. I am not one to bond with foreigners anyway. I love China and it's culture. There is a strong community of Christians there. They have a church but have difficulties because they can't have Chinese coming to services. For example I met people who like me, married locals but the Chinese were not allowed to attend the foreigners religious services.
Please don't include me in this because I a bad Buddhists.

There are foreigners here, but you don't see them very often if you live in the city! If you work at a large university, most of which are outside the city, you will probably see them more often.

There are several expat bars here. You can also see them eating at McDonald's from time to time, although the ones I've met there in general have not been very friendly [they must have just been passing through from some other place that has many foreigners]

Nanchang is a good city in that it is still relatively unknown. I had never heard of it before I came here. Everyone has heard of Shanghai and Beijing, so naturally the foreigners will all flock to these places.

In Nanchang you can experience real china life and culture. The locals all love foreigners here, and you will get a lot of attention from the local ladies.

It is still easy to find foreign friends here if this is what you're looking for, and they're all friendly and good to each other. It's like a fraternity here. I don't think you get this same kind of thing in Shanghai or Beijing.

Oh gods, I hope not!!!

We up here in Jiujiang basically loathe heading down to Nanchang for the Metro run (when we're desperate for cheese, etc).

Speaking of which, if you're not finding the expat scene in NC, then grab the fast train up to here - there are about a dozen or so of us, and many hang out together (cos most work at the same place... and we have the local bar sorted out! Very Happy)
