My question is whether it would be a better idea for me, a first-timer,
to try to get a job before I go (i'm looking into Taipei, Taiwan) or get one when I get there.
Also, I will need to get names of a few good schools before I go, and also
the best way to get a furnished apartment.
Any feedack is appreciated.

I've never even been to Taiwan, so take this with a grain (or shaker) of salt. But it would be best to get a job before you leave.

Unless you can afford to do a job hunt vacation where you essentially show up and stay in a hotel or wherever and start just going to schools looking for work. But in this case you need to set a limit in terms of time/money spent.

I think your best bet would be to go after the big schools that will get you what you need (they advertise on sites like this one). Just like people do in Japan (where I am now).

Good luck!

I've never worked in Taiwan, but have worked with people who have. They say go there and look for a job, that way you can see what the school is like and also see if it's registered with the Bureau of Ed.
You might try posting this question on the Taiwan forum, I think you will get more replies there.
