Being new to the Cafe, I'm just browsing through all the forums, eating a push-pop, and wondering why it's 87 degrees already in May. (I'm here in the States but I don't live in Texas!) Anyway...
In my search I found a short thread about being able to work on a 12-VII (missionary or volunteer) as long as the agency that sponsored you with that Visa isn't paying you for that volunteer work. So, for example, I can have a 12-VII and do things for them for free AND be paid by a different agency (like a high-school) as long as I have a RUC# and pay taxes. Is this statement accurate and current?
I have lived in SA before on a 12-VII and it was easy to obtain & renew, therefore I'd like to go that route again in the situation stated above. But only if it's legal. |

Be happy. I'm still wearing my winter coat. Where are you in the US?
Maybe try piggybacking off the other Ecaudor visa thread?
Maybe one way around that is having the sponsor give you a living stipend? I can't imagine all the missionaries, etc in Ecuador not making anything. |

I'm in sunny North Carolina where we just recently were in a state of emergency due to tornadoes. Killed 3 kids near me...
So are you suggesting if the volunteer sponsor gave me some sort of stipend I could work too, for say, a colegio? I will check more on the net, just can't seem to find anything about it except one other person on this site who did it and said it was fine as long as you get a RUC# and pay taxes. Although I'm hearing so far that just isn't legal. |

I was on a missionary/volunteer visa for two years. I also got a RUC and worked at a high school using facturas. I filed taxes twice a year for two years, and when I applied for my RUC, the guy took a copy of my visa so he knew my status, one of my current co workers also is working this way and has been for 26 years! I did however have a friend who was denied a newq volunteer visa for not being able to show she was actually volunteering. (She wasn't). I have a friend who was in the same situation as you who did just get a visa to teach. PM me and I'd be happy to put you in touch with him for some info. Good luck! |
