hey guys, i am going to be in Kobe for a summer job for an 8 week time period, from June to August. i have been to japan before but never lived there nor have i been to Kobe, so i'm not very familiar with the city at all. i know there are a ton of options for tokyo short-term housing, but i am having trouble locating similar options for kobe.

does anyone know of any reputable and cheap short-term places such as guesthouses, gaijin houses, short-term rentals, preferably near Kobe University or a subway station? someone also suggested homestays as an option as well, but i'm a bit dubious about staying with a family. has any one had any experience with that and what did u think of it?

it's just a summer internship, they are helping me but are not obligated to guarantee any housing for me. i also figured it wouldn't hurt to do some flat-hunting on my own either, so i am going through my resources (this forum being one of them) Very Happy

Your employers sound like a bunch of rank amateurs.

Thy aren't obligated to help you, but you're not obliged to help them.

Seriously consider whether they are worth it.

http://www.jafnet.co.jp/plaza/guesthouse/guest_kansai2/kansai2_e.html

Try googling 'Kobe guesthouse' and 'kobe guesthouse one month'.

I agree with Mr. Monkey. You shouldn't disregard what he writes with a rude "Dude, chill".

Internship or not, you are coming to Japan from outside the country. They should really be looking out for you more than that. At the very least they should provide a list of possible places that you could check out upon your arrival.

You wrote "they are helping me", but what exactly does that mean? Without knowing, we can only make assumptions here.

Best of luck.

I may have been a little over-direct in the way I put it, but I stand by my post. They know the ground. They have the contacts in the local area.

They are bringing you halfway around the world, internship or not. They should at least give you points of contact; particularly over those you can find, as previously indicated, through 30 seconds on Google.

It seems that the people you are going to be working for don't know their local area.

Consider whether or not they are worth it.

...why should anyone bother telling you? So they can run the risk of catching more of your ungratefulness and sarcasm?

People here were just trying to help, there was no reason to get rude.

in case you missed it, i posted a rather grateful and sincere thanks to the two posts which actually addressed the question of where to find housing. i'm not going to waste any more time on off-topic subjects, such as the legitimacy of my employers or level of gratefulness.

anyway, to sabina, that kansaifreeads thing was a real help! i've managed to get a few apartment contacts from there, thanks! if anyone else knows of any more good stuff, i won't bite your head off, contrary to popular belief Smile
