I want to start a second career as an EFL teacher. I have BS and MS in IT and have 6 years experience as a corporate trainer as well as 3 year experience teaching at secondary/collegiate level . After reading the forums this is what I have been able to understand without a CELTA it is possible to land a job, but CELTA will definitely put you in the short stack of CVs.

Since I dont have 2-3 years of ESL teaching experience I initially thought Latin America would be a good place to get the 3 years experience. But I am hearing the Asia would be a better place. Is this a fair statement?

thanks
Pietto

Since you have the degree AND one assumes a passport from one of the primary anglophone countries (UK, USA, Canada, Australia or NZ (sometimes Ireland or South Africa)) you meet the minimum requirements for a work visa as a teacher (ESL) in ALL of Asia.

If you do not hold a passport from one of the major anglophone countries your options become far more limited.

The CELTA, while a good program that will give you a valuable leg up "IN THE CLASSROOM", is largely ignored in most of Asia and is NOT a requirement to find a job as an English teacher. The same holds true for all the other TEFL/TESOL certification programs as well.
