I wanted to inquire about possible job opportunities at the university level in Oman for someone with an:
M.Ed (ESOL) from USA
5 years experience (non adult)
TEFL certification
Last but not least
Wife and two kids

I think Sultan Qaboos University may realistically be your only option.
Family packages are more likely in the UAE.

His problem will be that the experience is not related to university hires. Will SQU accept K-12 experience? He may encounter the same issue in the UAE... though HCT is pretty desperate for teachers right now what with the reputation tanking.

FYI: The Colleges of Technology in Oman require at least two years of 18+ teaching experience (Foundation/College etc) for your CV to be approved. |

there's supposed to be 2 years of tertiary experience to work in Oman, but the truth is that with the institutes that contract you into the colleges, the rule is flexible. i know of a girl who came in fresh off her bachelor's and another who had an m.ed, but only elementary school experience. the best way to look for a way in the gulf is the shotgun approach. just apply for everything decent and see what you hit... |
